The city should incentivize the beautification of properties located in the historic district. One example would be to provide some kind of rebate to residents who have made dramatic landscape or facade (period appropriate) improvements to their homes, in much the same way the city has given grants to business owners to update their storefronts. People are attracted to Mount Dora for its beauty and historic homes at least as much as they are to the shopping district. Some homes in the downtown area have unkempt yards, dilapidated fences, and uninspired facades. There could be contests as well, for most improved properties, etc.

It seems that prior efforts at restoring the water quality of Lake Dora have faded over time and there is less awareness and emphasis on this important part of the city. The lake should not be green and murky. Pressure should be applied to SJWMD and Orange County to get the chain of lakes clean up taken seriously.
