Hurricane Preparation

The City of Mount Dora wants to remind citizens it is never to early to prepare for Hurricane Season that starts June 1st and ends until November 30th.

We have already seen the first Tropical Storm which developed and moved out into the Atlantic in May.

Now is the time to start thinking about your emergency plan should a Hurricane move over the state and effect Lake County.  Hurricanes can cause extensive power outages, damage to homes and can lead to injury.

The City has created a web page dedicated to Hurricane Preparation and Safety with information, links to state websites and a printable Hurricane Supply Checklist.

The City urges citizens to sign up for Emergency Notifications that are specific to Mount Dora.  During a storm, if you lose power, you can receive messages relevant to your community through your phone via email, text or phone call.  If you know someone who does not have internet but needs to sign up, please have them contact Public Information Officer Lisa McDonald at (352) 735-7142 Ext. 1102 and leave a message with their name, phone number and address to be added to the alert system.

There are Hurricane Supply Checklists available at City Hall, in the front Lobby right as you walk in that you can pick up.  We are leaving the checklists there for now for social distancing reasons and as other government facilities open, such at the Library, they will be added there.  Take as many as you like for yourself, your family, your friends and neighbors.  This is a comprehensive list of supplies that you will want to have should your power go out for an extended period of time.
