Please see the following message from Mayor Crissy Stile regarding the Odor Issues in Mount Dora:
"I spoke at length this morning with Dr. Phil Kane of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) regarding the ongoing odor in the southeast of Mount Dora and Tangerine areas.
Dr. Kane has spent quite a bit of time determining the source of the smell. As of yesterday, October 26th, Dr. Kane indicated that the landfill is a large contributing source of the ongoing odor. Dr. Kane has spent time speaking to residents and has toured the landfill, all while traveling through the affected areas.
It is the City’s understanding that a Consent Order will be issued to Mid-Florida Materials Mount Dora location. The landfill is permitted for operation through the FDEP so they are the agency required to issue a corrective action order. A Consent Order is a legal document that will be agreed upon and signed by both parties requiring that corrective action be taken.
Once the Consent Order is delivered the timeframe allowed and terms of the Order will be determined. The Consent Order will list steps that are to be taken in order to become compliant. If compliance is not achieved within the timeframe determined fines and penalties, as determined by the FDEP, will result.
Once the Consent Order has been issued there will be an update on the City’s website so you can stay up to date on what’s happening with the odor issues. Thank you for your continued patience as the City continues to work with the FDEP to resolve the odor issues".
