Funding increased for Lake CARES Business Assistance Program awards   

  

Tavares – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners has approved increasing grant award amounts for all qualified for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations impacted by COVID-19. 

 

The $16 million grants program – known as the Lake CARES Business Assistance Grant Program – will continue accepting applications until Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. Applications received before the deadline will be considered for the new award levels, as well as any additional awards that could be retroactively made if the initial funding is not immediately expended. The federal funding is being made available to Lake County through the State of Florida. 

   

Awards to qualified businesses and organizations will range from $4,000 to $20,000 as follows:    

  • Self-employed/sole proprietor: $4,000  
  • Businesses with 2-9 employees: $10,000  
  • Businesses with 10-50 employees: $15,000  
  • Businesses with more than 50 employees: $20,000  
  • Non-profits and Chambers of Commerce (no employee requirement): $10,000  

        
     The new award amounts will be retroactive to all applicants previously approved and included in the first two rounds of payments, as well as all new applicants.

Is your local business in need of cloth face masks to help prevent the spread of germs related to #COVID19? Lake Support and Emergency Recovery (LASER) can help! Please email LASER at nicole@laserfl.com or call their office at (352) 241-2104. LASER asks for a donation of $1 per face mask to offset material expenses, but they will provide masks to businesses in need regardless of their ability to donate.

The Business Recovery Assistance Collaborative Engagement (BRACE) Program was created by the Orlando Economic Partnership in collaboration with business resource and support organizations throughout the region to provide recovery assistance to small and medium sized businesses during this unprecedented national crisis.

Tavares – The Lake County Agency for Economic Prosperity wants to make local businesses aware of the resources available to help mitigate the economic impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has activated the Business Damage Assessment survey to assess the impact of COVID-19 on Florida’s local business operations. The survey, managed by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), will evaluate businesses affected by COVID-19 and the impacts the virus has had on the local economy so actions to implement appropriate relief programs can begin. The Business Damage Assessment Survey can be taken online at https://www.floridadisaster.biz.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has activated the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program for small businesses affected by the virus. Funding of up to $2 million is available for those who qualify. Businesses can view application criteria and apply online at https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance.

Small businesses can also apply for the Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program to help bridge the gap between the time the economic impact occurred and when a business secures other financial resources, including payment of insurance claims or the longer-term Small Business Administration (SBA) loan. This loan program provides short-term, interest-free loans of up to $50,000 per eligible small business. Visit https://www.floridadisasterloan.org for additional information.

U.S. Representative Ross Spano has put together a ’Small Business Guide’ that has all the necessary information about assistance programs and frequently asked questions, as well as a ’Non-Profits Guide’ for local organizations.

Florida’s Division of Emergency Management (DEM) is seeking the assistance of Florida manufacturers and suppliers to fill the needs of Florida’s hospitals and emergency care services during the COVID-19 pandemic, including N95 masks, face shields, and gowns.
