Why are fire hydrants painted different colors?
City hydrants are painted either red (even years) or yellow (odd years) as we test city-owned hydrants.

Private hydrants, which are tested and painted by the owner, are painted silver.

The bonnet colors for ALL hydrants are painted in compliance with ISO Flow Standards:
Blue: 1,500 gpm (gallons per minute) or greater
Green: 1,000 to 1,499 gpm
Orange: 500 to 999 gpm
Red: less than 500 gpm
