Streetscape Includes Redesigned Childs Park

Childs Park

During the February 25 joint workshop, the City Council approved 60% design and funding plan for Phase 1 of the Downtown Streetscape project. Construction will begin in May on Childs Park.

Located downtown on the southwest corner of 4th Avenue and Alexander Street, Childs Park is a key element of the Downtown and Lakefront Improvements included in the Master Plan. The centerpiece of the park’s design is the event area. It will be both a gathering area with seating and a venue for small events with expanded electrical service to accommodate a variety of activities. The park will also create a direct connection to the Chamber patio area to allow these areas to function as one. Substantial improvements will also be made to the restroom facilities.

With the construction recently completed on the 4th Avenue Docks, construction on Childs Park is expected to begin in May with the roadway work to begin in June. All phase 1 construction is scheduled to be complete by October 1, 2013.

Residents can view detailed financial information and track this project's progress on the Construction Projects page on the city's website.
