Jim Faulkner

Jim was born in Dubuque, Iowa, a city on the Mississippi River bordering Wisconsin and Illinois. He currently resides in Ocala, Florida, where he has lived since 1994. Jim attended DeVry Technical Institute in Lombard, Illinois for a short period while pursuing his Computer Science degree. He later completed his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with an emphasis on Software Development from Western Governors University. After a short break, Jim continued his education and received a Master of Science in Information Technology Management, also from Western Governors University. Jim holds several certifications, including CompTIA Project+, CIW User Interface Designer, CIW Advanced HTML5 & CSS3, and is a PMI Certified Associate of Project Management.

Jim came to the City of Mount Dora from the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners where he spent over 18 years, beginning as a Senior Programmer, then moving on to become the Director of Geographic Resources and Community Planning, and subsequently, the Director of Geographic Information Systems. Prior to working for Citrus County, Jim worked for Mark III Industries in Ocala, beginning as a mainframe console operator, and moving on to network administration, database administration, and finally, a lead developer.

Jim received Employee of the Year for saving Citrus County more than a million dollars during his career with them by developing many software applications that increased efficiency and productivity, including a pavement rating system, a paperless Code Compliance system, land assessment system, online permitting system, and a document management system. He has received acknowledgements and certificates of appreciation from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office for developing C-STAR, an application that enables the County to quickly perform situational and tactical assessments, FEMA damage assessments, and search and rescue operations. Jim was also recognized for being a key implementer of the Citrus County Geographic Information System.

Jim has been married to his wife, Bobbi, for over 25 years and they have three children, James (23), Dillon (18), and Rachel (16). He has several pets, including three dogs (an Olde Bulldog, a Pomeranian, and a Chihuahua), four cats, a Cockatiel, and several fish (freshwater and saltwater). He enjoys scuba diving, kayaking, hiking, motorcycling, and spending time with his family.
