Chief Griner has deep roots in Mount Dora. He and his family have lived here since 1993 and he is a life-long resident of Lake County, having grown up in Leesburg. He started his firefighting career with the City of Orlando in 1987 and served there for 24 years, with 13 of those years as a District Chief.
In the early 2000’s he led their HazMat Team and in ’01 & ’02 served on the city’s Anti-Terrorism Task Force with Director John O’Grady. The task force was assembled following the 9/11 attacks. Chief Griner holds a Bachelor’s degree, is a Fire Service Instructor and holds the State of Florida’s highest certification for Chief Officers, Fire Officer IV. Chief Griner is one of five firefighters in his family – all serving in Central Florida.
